Saw a couple of these today as I went out. My first thought was, and what of the Lack of markers of the turning of seasons? The coming of winter? And the invoking of Jesus as “the reason”, as if that invoking is sufficient to represent some universally accepted theology (which it is FAR from doing, most least of all in today’s environment where American churches put up no fight against the wholesale acceptance of the worst ideologies of empire). Where American Christians are free to FAIL to see the obvious contradictions in their support of bigotry and violence (ie. Trump, Islamaphobia, Right wing economics) becaue their churches are afraid of being identified as “being political”, and their faith is cordoned off into a Gnostic spiritual realm, apart from everyday realities, where we acquiesce to violence against the earth and each other. That kind of spirituality is of the most deadly variety, for it allows us to keep ourselves in willful ignorance that our actions are having consequences; some immediate and bloody, some gradual and toxic (Climate Change). So, the “Reason for the Season”? What is that?
