I like what Scoble wrote today re: his thoughts on privacy. It does a really good job of tracking his initial reaction to the strong reactions people had re: Facebook’s newest new features/hooks. I also like that as he has heard from more people, he has evolved his own thinking and articulation of the problem into a well balanced accommodation of both his initial excitement (which is he still excited about, and I tend to agree with him – or at least see why he “likes the LIKE†features) AND his assessment of what Facebook has done wrong (i.e. failing to clearly tell us what we are getting in return.
I also tend to agree with this point he lists as one of the things that needs to be “redone†re: privacy:
If Facebook wants to be trusted it must make a privacy contract with its users that will have real consequences if Zuckerberg throws it under the bus. I don’t know what that looks like. This is why the alternatives to Facebook just don’t matter either. They all could break their privacy contract with us. Even Google or Microsoft could and we all know it. So, we’re just going to have to live in this new world where privacy is a myth.

I've migrated all my content over tohttp://www.folkdirect.com – I only share with those I choose and I can hide/show whatever I want. It's built on strong privacy controls (with no silly applications that steal your info!)
