The Occupy movements around the world often bring to the fore many churches who have quietly been supporting movements of alternative values and confrontations of unjust government economics.
The Occupy LSX camp outside St Paul’s Cathedral has meant that that the church’s relationship with causes of political and economic justice has been front page news in recent months in an unprecedented way. It has lead to a politicised renewal of the phrase What Would Jesus Do?

This is a state of affairs that has been shaking the church awake in other instances, as church bodies who have been writing and talking about justice are now seeing opportunities to be active participants in PEOPLE’s movements. I wish Howard Zinn could have seen this. I wish MLK was seeing this (and perhaps he is; perhaps both of them are). When I look at what MLK was doing when he was assasinated (in Memphis, standing with garbage workers, and working on plans for the Poor People’s Campaign and March on Washington.
