ONe had to know there would be PLENTY of lists with Mega-Church stars and such. Makes it hard to find those who are looking at SocialMedia within the church from a less EVENT-CENTERED passion for EXTENDING church, rather than BEING a church that happens to be online. The enthusiasm for Social Media possibilities moves us ever closer to the problem of the medium becoming and overshadowing the message.
I have some “whoa, hold on a minute†sense about this Online Worship stuff. I think we may be racing into this too enthusiastically – and NOT that any particular elements that are blogged, tweeted, or streamed or put on YouTube aren’t worthy pieces of content – but we may be too quick to call this ONLINE WORSHIP. I’m not so sure that WORSHIP is so easily “streamed†– ISTM there is a local face to face element that is crucial.
But I keep searching, and please do offer any “yeah but…†that this concern of mine may elicit in you. I want this to be played out and thought through by ALL of us.
