Calling all rage

This disturbs me, too. This from the July 24th episode of Moyers’ The Journal

anti-abortion crusader Randall Terry, the founder of Operation Rescue:  Do not expect us to betray God, and to pay for the murder of our neighbor. If you do, you are deceived, you are deluded. We will not comply. And there will be unthinkable, horrifying ramifications. People will react — whether they react peacefully yet forcefully and with forethought, or whether they react viscerally, with eruptions of rage.

What disturbs me most is not the assertion that the use of taxpayer funds via an eventual Health Care reform would be “paying for murder”.  IN many instances,  I could agree on this about abortion.  So often,  it is the “easy out”  or the “quickest out” for convenience’ sake.  But what bothers me here is that we’ve been funding “the murder of our neighbor” since the beginning of U.S. taxation.  But these “pro-life” folks don’t see that.  They do not associate the same “convenience” factor in the U.S. military decisions to bomb cities to prevent loss of “American” lives.  They will easily and routinely choose the willful sacrifice of OTHER citizens (many of those actually UNBORN victims of other nationalities) in order to “make it easier” for us to achieve our objective.

“Pro-life” indeed.  They are just as opportunistic in their taxpayer support of war as they so viscerally attack the idea of “abortion rights”.  I have had my fill of the Religious Right in this country failing to see how their “energy” in “protecting and valuing life” only extends as far as their political allegiances,  and NOT from God.   They don’t trespass on the “national loyalty”one bit when it comes to pursui8ng a “truly pro-life” stance.  So find another name to designate what you oppose.  It’s not the taking of life.  Only the taking of lives that you say you care about.  Either that,  or their nationalism blinds them to the plain fact that other killing by design happens with their tax dollars,  only they have been trained and formed as citizens who do not allow the thought of national interests being trumped by any “higher values”. I think the Kingdom of God and the teachings of Jesus to “love your enemy” (and in the case of innocent civilians,  it’s not even “enemies” we are acquiescent in killing.  It is the victims of wars decided upon by their national leaders,   or someone else’s.

Further,  listen to this guy as he basically incites and calls for violence:

We will not comply. And there will be unthinkable, horrifying ramifications. People will react — whether they react peacefully yet forcefully and with forethought, or whether they react viscerally, with eruptions of rage.

If you see the video of this guy saying this stuff, you can see the rage in him,  and the sense that he is calling on his “followers”  to act in such a  manner.  The video can be seen at the link at the top of this post.
