Josh Hancock, Cardinal Pitcher, killed in Car Wreck

Man oh man.  I went to the front page of mlb.com after I saw on the schedule page re: Cardinal Cub game tonight: Postponed- Tragedy.  My first thought was a terrorist attack in Chicago.  (The teams were playing in St. Louis, however,  and it wasn’t a terrorist attack there either. I was thinking Chicago because of the Sears Tower).  Second cardinal pitcher in 5 years to die.  I don’t remember too much about his stint with the Reds in 2004-2005,  but all that fades into obscurity when someone dies at 29.

ST. LOUIS — Cardinals pitcher Josh Hancock, 29, was killed in a car accident early Sunday morning on Interstate 64 in St. Louis.

According to multiple reports, Hancock’s vehicle hit a tow truck at approximately 12:30 a.m. CT and the pitcher died at the scene. He had pitched three innings in Saturday afternoon’s game against the Cubs.

Sunday night’s scheduled Cardinals-Cubs game, scheduled for 7:05 p.m., has been postponed.
