Church as a Space for Dealing with Ecological Crisis

We need a church where we can deal with our darkness; our sense of existential threat that we see unfolding, and see that a scary amount of humanity is nowhere near seeming ready to face, so that some sort of response can come forth. When the church helps us keep all this at arms length or out of sight, it simply underwrites our further denial. We can be in denial and lay claim to “believing the science”. But as with the Christian faith, “believing” is more than “agreement” with something. It is ACCEPTING it and living as though it means something.
