Thursday night my computer turned off, and when I turned it back on, it told me “Windows was unable to startâ€, and recommended I let it do a “Startup repairâ€, the conclusion of which involves restoring from the previous Restore point. I had been running IE9 64 bit and Flash’s new 64-bit Active X Flash player, “Square†for about 36 hours. The problem came, I believe, when I launched IE9 64-bit to open an instance of the NCAA live coverage of the tournament games so I could watch the replay of the Kentucky-Princeton game from earlier Thursday. I was already connected to the NCAA live coverage with my Chrome browser. Eventually the Chrome browser Flash player crashed, and then I noticed that my computer had shut off.
So I nervously consented to the Startup Repair, which took about 15 minutes, and seemed to be successful. As I expected, the Restore action undid the IE9 install and the Flash 64-bit Active X “Square†install. I decided I would forego IE9 for now, until some of these problems are ironed out.
I’ve done some googling, but I haven’t found any accounts of others having this “Startup Repair†process induced on their computer as a consequence of running IE9 and “Squareâ€.
