Tea Partier says “Free Market” assures us that power is not abused. What world does he live in? #principalitiesandpowers

Honestly.  Free market protects us against abuse?  The same “free market” that is invoked to defend BP?

History shows us again and again that whenever the power to decide "what is fair" is given to Government officials and/or appointed bureaucrats, there is far more propensity and opportunity for abuse of this power. It is only when free citizens and the free market are able to flex their collective purchasing muscle that we can be sure that this power is not abused.

So, when the power to decide “what is fair” is given to “free market”,  we get an efficient and fair Health Care system.  Uhh….no.  We get a staunch defense of the ownership of the Internet “by the people”.  Uhh….no.   We get immediate moves such as that demonstrated by Google and Verizon.

The “trust” in the “market” is about as idolatrous as one can get.  It assumes that there is no “love of money” which the New Testament tell us is the root of all evil.  How people end up dismissing the presence and influence of “love of money” from this  “free market” is a real head scratcher.  It seems to point out how the shaping influences of this market (this “principality”)  shapes us affectively even as we deny with our lips that such formation is occurring (one of the key lessons in my current reading in James K.A. Smith’s Desiring the Kingdom.)
