Here is a suggested fix I found for something I experience constantly with the Google Chrome browser. It gives me the page not found error, and merely hitting F5, sometimes twice, gets me the page. The same URL is fine on both other browsers. This even happens with loading GMail. I see this most often because gmail is the first link on the Chrome front page which shows my most oft visited links. This also doesn’t happen on the other browsers when I haven’t been trying Chrome first. This problem also happens on every other computer (it happened on my work computer, too), on my Netbook, laptop, and everywhere, but not in IE or Firefox).
Here’s something I’m going to try. I’ll report back on this (since it occurs at random times, but way beyond often enough to be a major annoyance. A Google search confirms that this problem is widespread. I would have thought that such a thing would be more widely complained about.

- In Google Chrome, click on Tools menu (a little wrench icon), then go to Options.
- Click on the Under the Hood tab.
- Under “Privacy†section, untick the check box for Use DNS pre-fetching to improve page load performance.
Click on the Close button.
- Refresh to reload the web page.
