The Corporate Media State Has Deformed American Culture — Time to Fight Back | | AlterNet

This article by Christ Hedges (whom I just finished listening to on an audio book version of his book “Collateral Damage”) has some quite spot-on things to say about the dominance of consumer capitalism hoiusted upon us by the corporate media.  (Hat tip to Larry for this one….he refers to this article in his post from which I quoted in my previous post).  Hedges sounds a warning for us not to watch out for the liberals or the conservatives,  but the driving force which is handling Americans from all over the political landscape:

Our bankrupt liberalism, which naively believes that Barack Obama is the antidote to our permanent war economy and Wall Street fraud, will either rise from its coma or be rolled over by an organized corporate elite and their right-wing lap dogs. The corporate domination of the airwaves, of most print publications and an increasing number of Internet sites means we will have to search, and search quickly, for alternative forms of communication to thwart the rise of totalitarian capitalism.

Hedges sounds a lot like Naomi Klein,  whom I discovered vai her book “The Shock Doctrine”,  which came highly recommended from more than one of my theological friends.
