Two new pickups

2books_0210.jpgI just picked up a bargain book from Barnes and Noble (Daniel Ellsberg’s Secrets: A Memoir of Vietnam and the Pentagon Papers) for 5 bucks, and then I finally got my copy from the library I had put on hold (Thomas Frank’s What’s the Matter With Kansas? How Conservatives Won The Heart Of America)

Awesome. From people I trust, I’ve heard that that Thomas Frank book is rad. That NewDonkey.com site doesn’t like it, though, for some odd reason. I sorta stopped reading that site anyway.

Speaking of Vietnam books, I picked up the hardback edition of A Bright Shining Lie a couple months back at a used bookstore. I’ve heard it praised on DailyKos and elsewhere as a good (and thick) book about that war. I still have the Rush Limbaugh-recommend Dereliction of Duty as well (not the polemic book against Clinton, this is a Vietnam-only subject book). I don’t know if it’s any good because I have zero trust in Limbaugh’s judgement these days, but we’ll see.
