Bush Recycles Failed Campaign Promises

He’s hoping nobody noticed how NONE of his campaign promises were lived out:

Blog for America

There’s so much MEAT here, I can’t decide what to quote. It’s all GREAT! Every bit of it expresses the rage I feel whwn I hear Bush recite old lines “I’m running on Compassionate Conservatism”. Who’s he kidding? Has anybody payed attention to how big of a farce this is?

Anyway, read on:

President Bush’s speech was reminiscent of his acceptance speech in the 2000 election; a fact which should not be surprising when one considers the number of campaign promises which have not been kept. In 2000, he made the same claim to “compassionate conservatism” (whatever that is). Let the record show some of what he promised the citizens of America, then reneged on:

“We will leave this nation greater than we found it.” Four years ago President Bush promised to take America forward, and he has done exactly the opposite. Over a million and a half Americans lost their private-sector jobs since President Bush took office. Short of nine-hundred thousand a month job creation between now and the election, George W. Bush will become the first president since the 1920’s to show a net loss of jobs under his watch. How does that make the nation greater?
“The Bush Campaign will make health insurance more affordable for hardworking low-income families.” Since this claim was made family health care premiums have raised by fifty percent, over four times the increase in workers’ earnings last year (those who are working, that is). Five point two Americans have lost their health insurance since President Bush took office, bringing the total to 45 million Americans (greater than fifteen percent of the population).
“I want to change the the tone of Washington to one of civility and respect.” Instead of working to bring Democrats and Republicans together, President Bush has created tensions in Washington unlike anything in recent memory. The President has made a practice of presenting legislation and then forcing votes before members of Congress or the Senate have a chance to adequately consider it (see the Patriot Act). His policy of recess appointments for unpopular judges has enfuriated democrats, and the level of secrecy which this administration maintains is reminiscent of the Nixon era.

There are so many other broken promises, like daycare (costs have been raised over $2000 on average), budget and trade deficits and the bankrupting of social security to name a few. I would end this post with my own catchy phrase, but I really could not hope to do any better than quoting what the President said in his 2000 convention speech. The Bush Republicans have had their four years of political dominance, and they have botched it royally. “Now they are asking for another chance, another shot. Our answer? Not this time. Not this year. I believe that America is ready for a new beginning.”
Great Summary, and all on one page ( the only way Bush would ever look at it,—- cuz ya see, the President isn’tr much of a reader —not my words, a White House staffer— so he can read an weep.)
