A particularly troubling portion of a comment in a thread under one of my posts in a Facebook group (“The New Methodists”):
“we must care for the planet, and yet our priority is the propagation of the gospel of Jesus”
This is the problem with the above:
We see in that brief sentence fragment a very disjointed, disengaged notion (from the significance of the earth/Creation in the Salvation story) of “the gospel of Jesus”….there is no “and yet”….it is a “therefore”.
Meaning, our priority is the propagation of the gospel of Jesus. THEREFORE, that certainly requires care for the planet, as the home of everything for which Jesus preached The Kingdom of God as “solution”.
