I’m a “Theopolitical blogger/curator/producer/developer” #wiredchurch

I just tweeted:  “Just discovered a good precise articulation of who I am on the Net: "A theopolitical blogger/curator/producer/developer" “

It feels right.  But I must explain, nevertheless.

Theopolitical:  I am deeply interested in politics,  and committed to the church,  so where does that leave me (or better question would be,  into what does that THRUST me?  What am I asking for in saying that?  There’s the problem of attempting to “be political” without becoming more like the “politics” that we see in American political discourse,  and there’s an implicit assumption (or danger of assuming)  that the philosophical and ideological categories assumed in American secular politics will pollute or distort a more ecclesiological, Christocentric, Yoder-ish/Hauerwas-ish politics (and throw in a chunk of James K.A. Smith there  too,  for it was he who alerted me ,  both directly and through his writings,  that Christian is not really amenable to becoming an adjective for “progressive” or  “liberal”.   So while I resist the notion of being a “Christian progressive”  or a “Progressive Christian”,  I will often describe myself that way to people who are into Progressive politics,  as a way of distinguishing myself from the “one of those Christians” (ie. The Religious Right).  I do that to establish some ground from which to walk away from that designation toward a place that more clearly distinguishes “Christian theopolitics”  from “Progressive politics” or “liberal politics”.

Next up:  “Blogger”;  the original “Social Media” (sort  of)
