“Legitimacy of Islam” and Murfreesboro controversy #NoGodButGod #islam #ReligiousRight #mosque-tro-versy

This quote from a Muslim college student really blows it open for me.  These people ranting endlessly about Sharia Law have lifted something obscure enough from some rendering of Muslim culture that a lifelong Muslim has never heard of it.  So there’s “central to Islam” for you.  So CENTRAL a young Muslim adult hasn’t heard of it.  Sheesh.

"I have been a Muslim all my life, and I’ve never heard about Shariah law," said Lema Sbentaty, a Middle Tennessee State University student who attended part of the hearings last week. "If this was true, who would want to be a Muslim?"

And another thing.  The God of Islam and the God of Christians and Jews is THE SAME GOD.  As with all religions,  culture and the way the religion’s narrative are articulated  are intertwined to an extent that lines between which came first are blurred.  But all three of these world’s religions are monotheistic.  And not only do they worship A God,  they worship ,  as we would say,  THE GOD.  Their Scriptures have origins in different civilizations dominated by different cultures and cultural mixes.  But Allah is simply “God” (with a capital “L”).

Frankly,  I see quite a few vast CULTURAL differences between various “Christian” narratives,  enough to cause me to ask the question “What god are they talking about?  Doesn’t seem all that similar to the one I know.  In fact,  if I can be more blunt,  the ones I ask this about often are found amongst those protesting these “mosques” the loudest.

(Note:  The "#NoGodButGod” hashtag is reference to a book by Reza Aslan,  a Muslim who has often been invited to talk to Westerners about Islam (he himself is an obvious “Western-ish”  person).
