No surprise, but I am always amazed when I hear things like this. What utter darkness these people have accepted as “light”, so totally unaware that they have failed to recognize those who posture themselves as “light” and then proceed to sow darkness and “inflict freedom” and get away with it by calling it freedom and hiding “freedom’s consequences to other people” by denying that well over 100,000 Iraqi civilians have died while a disproportionate force of our troops protect oil fields rather than human lives outside the green zone. Is there a Memorial Day for these outside of America’s gaze? Are Christians not first citizens of a Kingdom that is worldwide; even cosmos wide? Are we not citizens of a kingdom not of THIS world; are we not , with such words, attempting to replace “what would Jesus do” with “how can we remake Jesus into a patriot?” Usually such things are ignored, and instead of Jesus, the appeal is to “freedom and liberty”, which is in actuality an affront to the best and most faithful notions of freedom and liberty (which again, is dependent upon that which we derive and receive from Christ).
We go forward with complete confidence in the eventual triumph of freedom. Not because history runs on the wheels of inevitability; it is human choices that move events. Not because we consider ourselves a chosen nation; God moves and chooses as He wills. We have confidence because freedom is the permanent hope of mankind, the hunger in dark places, the longing of the soul.
–GW Bush in his second Inaugural, 2005
“freedom is the ultimate hope of mankind” —-uhhhh……what about Jesus? Oh, yeah, same thing (NOT!!!) “Freedom” is defined not as in Christ, and/or FROM Christ, or “OF Christ” , but as the abstract , wholesale acceptance of the American credo “whatever it takes” to “preserve our freedoms”; which is code for “whatever we don’t like or whatever threatens our “way of life” (always defined by the powers that be) is “a threat to freedom” and therefore the government is given blanket approval to use whatever means to “secure” that, and we will look the other way in the name of that “freedom”. My God.
This stuff is playing on channel 15 (Trinity Broadcasting Network), holding up Bush as a righteous leader……and playing phrase after phrase of Bush blaspheming Christ by replacing Christ as ultimate hope of mankind with “freedom”, which is the nation-state’s ultimate value yanked from the nationalistic lexicon and applied to whatever the hell a nation’s leaders want to do
“The best hope for peace in our world is the expansion of freedom in all the world.”
How about SALVATION? The SALVATION against which you work by triumphantly spreading the world’s way of ultimate allegiance to “violence as a way to insure peace”, and empty usages of such hollowed out terms such as “freedom” which means what YOU say it means, and therefore many quests for any sort of freedoms are instead greeted as “threats to freedom”. Bush goes on:
“America will not impose our own style of government on the unwilling. Our goal instead is to help others find their own voice, attain their own freedom, and make their own way.”
Even as we seek to impose a peace palatable to the neocon madmen. How even the most fundamentalistic of conservative Christians, with all their emphasis on “doctrinal purity” can let this slip by should be sobering. It indicates how cunning is the enemy we face; how easily the “angels of light” slip by what should be our diligent defenses and become dogmas capable of unleashing and acquiescing in hideous evil.
