a Great Light

This is a portion of the post for today over at inward/outward,   a daily blog from the Church of the Saviour

“The people who walked in darkness have seen a great light.” Isaiah 9

We are called to live in the Beloved Community – in a place where we practice the reality of the end of war and racism and greed and domination and exclusion of every kind. And as we live in communities of welcome, accountability and nurture, we are to work day by day for the reality of the Beloved Community to find expression in the political order. Jesus was born to put an end to war and violence. So we must stand against every expression of war and violence. Jesus was born so that we might know from his life how to welcome and serve the least, the last and the lost. So we must struggle against our cities and nations and corporations that work to exclude and hound and harass the least of our sisters and brothers.

We remain grateful for the witness of Jurgen Moltmann and his teaching for the Advent season. The days lengthen and grow darker; and surely the world is very dark with war and violence. We shall light candles in the darkness with hope in our hearts. May we hear the words of the prophets. May we follow Jesus the Jew into the places of despair and torment. And may we warm ourselves together in the great light of the promise that is ours for the living of these days.
