I just got a package in the mail from Amazon, consisting of 3 items. David Fitch’s book The Great Giveaway: Reclaiming the Mission of the Church from Big Business, Parachurch Organizations, Psychotherapy, Consumer Capitalism, and Other Modern Maladies, a book by Michael Isikoff and David Corn, Hubris: The InsideStory of Spin, Scandal, and the Selling of the Iraq War, and a DVD that I have wanted to re-watch for a long time Theologians Under Hitler.
I started right into the intro in Giveaway, and I won’t be putting it down any time soon. Be looking for some juicy quotes. I was drawn to this book after reading the discussion begun by David here (
the church and postmodern culture: conversation: Postmodernity vs. the Gospel?)
Our people look more and more like secular Americans as opposed to Christians ….In essence, evangelicalism has portioned off the tasks of being the church to modernity and in the process quit being the body of Christ in North America…. We must receive back from Christ the practices of being the people of God he has called us to be.
