The Need for Speed

CableModem.jpgMy internet connection of late had been really bad……the provider (Comcast) had been out after they discovered some fairly consistent packet loss happening. Someone came out Tuesday this past week and switched out a splitter, and the next test showed no packet loss. But it continued to be sluggish as I used it over the next several days. Last night I decided to go and get another Cable Modem and check to see if my performance improves. I had, for the past 6 years, been using a Toshiba PCX-1100 modem. But after hooking up the Motorola in it’s place, and then waiting for Comcast’s modem refresh/registration after I called and gave them my MAC and Serial number of my new modem, the speed is back. My Comedy Central Daily Show videos no longer stop several times while playing. The speed test where I was getting results anywhere from 95kbps (only dial up is slower) to , at best, 3000 kbps, I now get a minimum of 8150, but mostly 9500 to 9800 kbps. That’s much more like it.
