Now this is baseball

ValentinBy stark contrast (see my previous post),  I was at a Reds game on Sunday,  and I saw a 2 run homerun in the bottom of the ninth to pull the Reds into a 5-4 victory.  I’ve seen many a “game-untying” walkoff homerun,  but only two “come from behind walkoffs” to turn a loss into a win.  In 1995,  my son  (who was 6 at the time) saw Bret Boone hit a three run homer with two out in the bottom of the 10th to beat the Cubs,  who had taken a two run lead in the top of the 10th on a Mark Grace homerun.  And now,  11 years later,  Javier Valentin hit a two run homer with one out in the bottom of the 9th to win the game 5-4 over Arizona.  Up until this and a two run homer by Hatteburg in the previous inning,  the Reds had scored only on a leadoff homer and trailed 4-1 going to the bottom of the 8th.  They had been shutout in the previous two games, 3-0 and 7-0  ( the latter of which we were there to witness on Saturday night).  It’s really fun being in the ballpark when the homerun leaves the park and game is won,  and everone is yelling at the top of their lungs.Š
