Deep Ecumenism

An article from UMNS (United Methodist News Service) talks about a meeting between Louis Farrakhan and some United Methodist Bishops. It brought back to mind the idea which Matthew Fox’s writings planted in my brain some 15-20 years ago: Deep Ecumenism, which extends the idea of ecumenism from unity amongst Christian denominations to unity across faith traditions.

Nation of Islam leader preaches Scripture to group of bishops

Bishop Forrest Stith said Farrakhan emphasized the Abrahamic origins of Judaism, Islam and Christianity. He told the United Methodists that they shared “one faith with many labels” and that those labels shouldn’t distract them from the one faith, Stith said.
