The War Party

GW BUsh calls himself “A War President”, and says it with apparent pride. How utterly sad, but I find myself being not predominantly sad, but enraged. As I read Zinn’s A People’s History of the United States (I just watched a video of him on Comedy Central on the occasion of the release of his book, Voices of a People’s History). This article below is from the Progressive (there’s that word conservatives love to hate, since it implies that they are , well “Regressive” or STUCK, or more accurately, “of history” which is a hisotry of the powerful lording it over the rest; no small wonder that the radical Kingdom of Christ is described by Jesus by pointing to how we treat the weaker members of our society, and our world.

Opposing the War Party | Howard Zinn | May 2004 Issue

Every nation has its war party. It is not the party of democracy. It is the party of autocracy. It seeks to dominate absolutely. It is commercial, imperialistic, ruthless. It tolerates no opposition. It is just as arrogant, just as despotic, in London, or in Washington, as in Berlin. The American Jingo is twin to the German Junker. . . . If there is no sufficient reason for war, the war party will make war on one pretext, then invent another.”
