Hauerwas: Medicine for the Soul During Evil Times

Eric describes some results of searching Haerwas on Google. I did a similar search a coujple weeks ago. I need to find something in print thatr I can carry around. I’ve got James Carroll’s book, and a Brian McLaren book amongst all the books about the Bush-people (to keep me sane as I read on and see more corruption, more lies, more selling out of the welfare of people for the privelege of a few —which includes themselves).

Eric’s Tasty Morsels of Thought – Hauerwas is not “the best”

Hauerwas believes that Christianity, to be authentic, must take a stand. In a 1991 interview, he said: “If you ask one of the crucial theological questions–why was Jesus killed?–the answer isn’t `because God wants us to love one another.’ Why in the hell would anyone kill Jesus for that? That’s stupid. It’s not even interesting. Why did he get killed? Because he challenged the powers that be. The church is a political institution calling people to be an alternative to the world. That’s what the cross is about.”

Yep, that’s good. And yep, the Church today is in sorry shape considering how far it’s departed from “The Way”. It’s a spectacle of heretical [proportions; of abandoning the way of Jesus for a quick fix, brought to you even “more efficiently” by painting massive violence with “pretty colors” and massive deception, and Bush-speak.
