Part of the “downer” of today (written Sunday May 4, 2003) and of late is the computer stuff of mine that’s breaking pre-maturely. First, about a month ago, my Canon N1220U scanner (the real skinny kind, the $200 model — at least it was when I got it for Christmas in December 2000). It just stopped, and never woke up. It was out of warranty (wish now I had gotten one of those 3 year things BestBuy sells, but it was a present from my Mom.) So it’s dead. Just over 2 years old,

Then, about 2 weeks ago, my 17 inch monitor (flat screen, too) was making some high pitched sounds and all bowed in, so I restarted, and when it came back on, no power , nothing. And this monitor, an e-machines (serves me right for buying an e-machines anything, right?, and especially with no extra bonus coverage). This was only about 18 months old. I replaced it with a 4 year old monitor that was my #2 computer monitor (a ProView 17-incher I got from Circuit City about 3 years ago, and then replaced that with an even older Magnavox 15″ Monitor from my in-laws old computer that they gave me when they bought a new computer system. Kinda stinks , since my number 2 computer is also my office TV (it has an ATI All-Wonder Pro TV Tuner in it).

Both these events also get me that much more bummed about not having a job yet, or even if I did, it will likely be, for a while, a lower paying one, which will mean I can’t just replace this stuff. Scanners, while conveneient and fun, are not neccessities, nor is having a nicer “second computer” screen.

I just sent a resume to Dell here in Nashville to apply for an inside sales job, which doesn’t pay much, and is another bummer in that I am having to go to “plan B” (which is get anything I can so we can be that much less behind, as opposed to continuing to work on “higher aim” options such as web development, and preferrably, in a Church-related venture with a vision for online community ).
