I absolutely love the title of this post on Josh Marshall’s TPM Muckraker Site:

Tax Breaks for Big Oil: Bush Was For it Before He Was Against It

Flip-flopper! You can bet Fox won’t point that one out. And speaking of Fox News, seems that Tony Snow is switching departments ….er…taking a new job as White House Press secretary. Now the press core can “decide”, huh?

Bush’s statements about the “steps” he is taking to “combat oil prices” strikes me similarly to the tobacco companies doing their “Don’t smoke” campaigns. Pure posturing, since the whole crisis has been precipitated by the Bush Co.’s lust for oil and supreme hold over the economics of oil. When Bush declares that “the administration is not going to tolerate manipulation”, I end up thinking “except that I fully suspect that you’ve been helping do just that, given your being wedded to oil companies, and carrying on the Bush family collusion with the Saudis.”

Americans understand, by and large, that the price of crude oil is going up and that the prices are going up, but what they don’t want and will not accept is manipulation of the market,” Bush said. “And neither will I.”
