Escape into West Wing

Tonight I look forward to seeing another episode, but I know I will also be hit with pangs of regret about “Reality” of the West Wing right now. IN watching the West Wing, I can at least see what it might look like to have an articulate, moral, intelligent leader at the helm. In the real West Wing, we have just the opposite. A stumblingly inarticulate sheister of words who has a “PR machine behind him” that has somehow convinced half of America that this guy knows what he’s doing, and “means what he says”. He does very little of “what he SAYS”. He SAYS things to produce the spin that is repeated OVER and OVER, and then does things that are kept out of the limelight, but easily accessible if one takes care and time to inform one’s self.

The scary thing is the amount of normally intelligent people who have identified themselves with this regime. It’s a kind of mental illness. And Right-wing Radio, and many Churches, especially of the Southern Baptist variety, but including a scary sized large chunk of what is known as “evangelicalism” . They’ve corrupted the category so badly that many have taken to calling themselves “Progressive Evangelicals” (in contrast to the intellectual reversion that seems to take place that renders one suceptible to the spin of pundits , and the White House has specialists of its own in that vein. And the man behind the people who channel these spins is Karl Rove.)

Anyway, the West Wing has been portraying an attempt by the President to resolve a conflict about to boil over, and delaying making a large military response until extensive attempts have been made to bring the Israelis and Palestinians together. Another wisp of what makes me long for a President with some moral backbone, and some moral/intellectual understanding. Bush has become increasingly over his stint — and no doubt, more horrors lie ahead, and more consequences of his abyssmal lack of care in what he does. We cannot have 4 more years.

They must be exposed for who they are. They hounded Clinton in his second term on anything they could find. Here we have a corrupt and careless president and staff for whom there is plenty to call to account for, and to be removed from office, and prosecuted for their deception and betrayal of the American system.
