Krugman on Orwellian Bush

Last night Saturday Night Live had another great leadoff skit depicting the Friday night debates (and on later in thge show, one on the VP debate). The Bush character cracks me up, with his broken speech and his falling back on canned phrases, and this one where he depicted George jumping up and interrupting. Great job.

On Weekend Updatelater, they were commenting on clips from the debate, and the News Anchor says after Kerry accused the Bush team of using “Orwellian” names for programs like “Clean Air” and “Healthy Forests”— which, in the context of the book 1984, refers to the deceptive use of language to obscure what is often the exact opposite of what the name actually implies. The Weekend Update anchor said “YOu lost me at Orwellian Mr. Kerry”, and I thought, most people who graduated High School read that. Krugman had an article (pointed out by Eric) this week that talked about the Bush administration’s use of such deception:
