Mahatma Gandhi’s Unfinished Work

Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi was born in India to a family of the merchant class in 1869. As a young man, he studied law in London and set out to practice in Durban, South Africa. His 20 years in South Africa were shaped by the struggle against that country’s racist structures.

In his memoir, Gandhi gives the date of his conversion to nonviolent political resistance at a protest meeting in Johannesburg: the year was 1906, and the day was September 11

In his book, Crusade: Chronicles of an Unjust War, Carroll adds these lines starting with “In his memoirs” to the original article to which I linked above. I posted after reading the first few pages of Crusade just a day ago here
