Harvard Weblogs: What makes a weblog a weblog?
Dave Winer zeroes in on a “non-technical” defintion of a weblog; non-technical, but highly focused, and on “the Right Stuff”. The stuff is the voice; the person, coming through, first and foremost.

Dan Gillmor’s eJournal – Blogging and Streaming at BlogTalk Dan Gillmor’s Blog of the BlogTalk event, a real “blogasm” it seems. (I say this affectionately)
Looking in the Classifieds for Jobs, the Information Technology Section has gotten awfully thin these past two weeks. I found a temp agaency I had not yet heard of, and went to their Website. Many dead links on basic entry points like “Signup”, which went to a GuestBook4Free.com link, which yielded a “Buy this domain” page, which means that the Continue Reading
Does this text scroll off the right side and not warp like it does in say, Netscape 7? Why is that? Is there something I can do to the MT index template that will make this all better for IE6 (I know there have to be a lot of people using IE6, since it’s like the default browser for XP Continue Reading
Another Harvard weblog — the Center’s Weblog. The Berkman Center for Internet & Society is a research program founded to explore cyberspace, share in its study, and help pioneer its development.
On the theme of “Blogging Events”, we have: Weinberger with several articles (starting here and working their way forward in time, or to the link to the right of “Back to Blog” on the JOHO blog) that are Blogs straight from the Emerging Technologies conference hosted by O’reilly. There were several bloggers blogging the conference, many of the conferences covering Continue Reading
From hereI got a chuckle when I read Jon Lebowky’s opening question in an interview here linked to from Jon’s site: You offer Small Pieces Loosely Joined as a way of thinking about the web. I hate to ask you to summarize a concept that filled a whole book, but could you give us an abstract of your thinking? Why Continue Reading
I’m so angry these past few days. I can’t escape from the sense of utter waste that my having no job represents for the Church. There is such a dire need for scoping out the territory of the online landscape; to seek out the conversations by persons seeking meaning and causes to believe in, and affirm that the Church is Continue Reading
I’ve just been looking at links to Blogs of Events and presentations. It has its own lingo , ie. “I’m going to Blog the Conference” I was just wondering: Is it an “inapropriate” idea to “blog a Church service”; maybe so (tapping on keys would tend to be distracting), but what about “non-worship” events? The Methodist yearly conferences are going Continue Reading
Today marks 6 months of unemployment. Tomorrow, I turn 47. Those two facts together are spawning questions about how much longer it will take to reach some personal goals, like doing a job I feel called to do. Since around the year 2000, right about the start of summer, I was extremely frustrated with the job I had (which spanned Continue Reading
I tried to do my first MT “Upload Image” today, but I get this when I try to upload the file: Got an error: CGI open of tmpfile: Permission denied I can upload stuff via FTP, but apparently the MT app (the CGI function) does not have permission to upload. Any ideas?
I have had a blog, using Radio, since June 2002. and have just started an almost “mirror” blog in Movable Type (I just LOVE the Trackback feature, at least what it represents). Is there a “listing” of Movable Type blogs to which I should submit my listing (other than the one MT automtically updates when I create a new entry?
I was able to export a tab delimited text file and import it into an Access table, which gives me all of my old Rdio Shortcut names (articles and stories), and the URLs. If I wanted to do a batch search and replace of all the text in the MT database where the string “” (, in quotes) , and Continue Reading
My text in the main body area on the home index page does not wrap, and this seems to be a problem unique to IE6. Is this the case? (It is also NOT the case with the index pages below the main index (like Individual, Monthly, and Category index pages) It’s SOOOO irritating! What gives? I have several comments back Continue Reading
I am looking for ASP.Net Weblogs (not Weblogs about ASP.Net, but Weblog systems written for the .Net platform.) Also I want one in Cold Fusion and in PHP/MySQL. These three platforms: ASP.Net, Cold Fusion, and PHP, all are platforms I want to learn to wite to, and playing with installing Weblog systems and “monkeying” with these is a good way Continue Reading
