I've seen this MS Now promo ad, that is claiming to be representing "We the People" and citing the Preamble to the Constitution.
“We the People of the United States, in order to form a more perfect Union, establish Justice, insure domestic Tranquility, provide for the common defense, promote the general Welfare, and secure the Blessings of Liberty to ourselves and our Posterity, do ordain and establish this Constitution for the United States of America.”
But nothing at all about the ultimate danger to us all and everything we know and experience. All of this traditional articulation of "what life should be about" cannot seem to lay it's eyes and vision upon the ultimate centrality of earth's ecobalances, and the damages done to these systems. These "We the People" values expressed and enshrined are all something most of us eco-aware people can affirm, but we now need to be more explicit as to what we face. It's true in theology and faith communities as much as it is for political communities and nations. Any "We the People" MUST now set forth as top priority the preservation of what can still be preserved in the Earth's realities and systems.
Specific thoughts on the elements of the pre-amble:
Re: 1. A more perfect union:
the unity and inter-dependence of all
and 2. establish Justice:
There is no justice without Ecological balance, because the imbalance is populated and perpetrated by the insanely rich, and even the not-as-rich. The steeper the wealth, the more unjust and outsized EVERYTHING is: Their carbon footprint is a colossus across the board: Emissions in travel, emissions to heat and cool their insanely outsized homes, which is only increasing as the earth warms, extreme events increase, and things become scarce and so more deeply unaffordable for the rest of the world as they, the rich and almost or not-as rich, selfishly cling to their "comfort level" which they seek at all costs.
3. insure domestic Tranquility
This is becoming more and more a privilege reserved for and protected by the rich. "Tranquility" for the "other" is not a priority. This has become the GOP/MAGA mantra: We, the rich. Everyone else, good luck.
4. provide for the common defense
We are NOT defending anything*, least of all the Ecological balance that enables life as we know it.
*Except the interests of the economically powerful. That is being touted as the supreme value.
5. promote the general Welfare
The only "General Welfare" worth promoting above all else is that of LIFE SYSTEMS, upon which rises and falls the fate of ALL THINGS and ALL OF US.
6. secure the Blessings of Liberty to ourselves and our Posterity
"Liberty" has come to mean "Do what I want, when I want". That is a deadly definition. NOne are "free" until ALL is in its proper balance.
