The Unveiling Needed From EcoReformation

As I come nearer to the conclusion of Boff's "Cry of the Earth, Cry of the Poor", he is getting more and more insistent on that need/requirement for an EcoReformation that eclipses the scale and scope of all prior Reformations, for the Ecological Crisis demands that our theology be far more direct and "apocalyptic" in it's approach. But "Apocalypse", as I've said before, is less about "Chaos and death and the End of things" than what it was DESIGNED and NAMED to be: "an UNVEILING" that exposes the lies of the prevailing narratives of empire, and points the way to a restored Earth.

“A new spirituality, one adequate to the ecological revolution, is urgently needed. It is not a matter of speaking of spirituality as a deduction drawn from certain doctrines, a deduction that we might or might not draw. The point is to grasp spirituality as an overall experience of the connectedness of all searching, of encounters, of experiences of meaning– as that thread stringing all the pearls so as to form a necklace. It is needed in order to respond to an urgent demand that is not being met adequately.

That is why it is like an inexorable revolution. The conventional spirituality of the churches and of most historic religions is tied to models of life and interpretations of the world (world views) that no longer suit contemporary sensitivity.

They often leave the universe, nature, and daily life outside the realm of spiritual experience. The prevailing version of Christianity is anthropocentric. Everything is centered on human beings: salvation is for them; they alone have a future.” — Leonardo Boff, "Cry of the Earth, Cry of the Poor", Orbis Books (1997) , p. 189.
