MT 311 upgrade messed with my main blog

This is crazy. I set up a brand new subdirectory (mt31), and copied my movtyp directory (where my 2661 version is running) and made a copy of my database, and pointed the mt.cfg file I copied into my new mt31 directory.

I then uploaded all the files from my download of the mt311 upgrade , and made sure that mt.cfg file pointed at the COPY of the database (so they are using separate data. Right?)

I ran mt-upgrade30 and mt-upgrade31 like the instructions said. It said it completed OK.

I browsed to http://theoblogical.org/mt31, and I saw my site as I expected, without the data since Sept.1 (that’s the copy of the database I used, a backup from Aug31). I logged into mt31/mt.cgi, and I get the infamous error:

Status: 200 Set-Cookie: mt_user=dlature%3A%3Ad5tcqpfk95QYo%3A%3A0; path=/mt31/ Date: Wed, 08 Sep 2004 20:18:32 GMT Pragma: no-cache Content-Type: text/html; charset=iso-8859-1

I login anyway, and the admin page comes up. I click New Entry. Login page comes up again. I log in again. it takes me to the New Entry Page. I enter a new blog entry, and when I submit it, Login page again.

So I login again. (All of the pages have the above pragma-no cache error stuff)

The entry appears.
