I remember a title “The Cultural Captivity of the Churches”. This is so true regarding the Climate Crisis. That practically NO CHURCHES in the world are making this a message of crisis proportions and re-thinking their theology in light of this massive cultural captivity (the denial of the extent of the Crisis, or that there even IS a CRISIS). The irrelevance of the Church in the eyes of increasing numbers of people who are paying attention to the real world, is surely something that MUST BE addressed, and taken as CALLING to renovate our message. It calls for a new eschatology, and a new occasion for a NEW APOCALYPTIC. And we have VERY LITTLE TIME, given that such massive cultural/theological shifts will take decades , if not centuries, which we DON’T HAVE. The shift is STILL NECESSARY, if only as an act of repentance and re-envisioning the “end” of things (not an “end” as in all things stopping, but the manner in which “all things are made new”. What constitutes the “New”?
