No Ecological Crisis In Big Bookstores

This section of Barnes and Noble for their books that address the Ecological Crisis is actually far better than a lot of bookstores. But still, an incredibly paltry amount**, especially compared to the section on “Current Issues”, as well as Government, Economics, and Science. Just one of the ways our attention is diverted elsewhere, into areas considered “relevant” in a world where we haven’t OVERSHOT the carrying capacity of the earth, and thrown off the balances that a pre-Industrial, pre-technological humanity has initiated, and continues to largely ignore. And now, even the relatively small, insufficient measures we HAVE managed to implement are being suicidally dismantled as if it is all an ideological ploy (which our leadership is now calling “Climate Change Crap”).

EarthDay Booktable

The aforementioned “Earth Day” section at B&N on April 29, 2025 in the Murfreesboro TN store.

** This is ONE bookcase section out of , probably 200 of the same size across the store (if not more). You’ve probably been in a Barnes and Noble, which are fairly uniform in size wherever they are found across the world. This is the only section for these kinds of books. Even their “Earth Day” section doesn’t include any “Crisis/Emergency” books that attempt to call attention to our predicament. They’re all of the “Appreciating nature” variety (which is good on its own merits, but woefully silent on how urgent the crisis is that threatens the further flourishing, or even the existence of such wonders as this crisis deepens.)
