“Turbo-charging” Reformation

“It is time for a prophetic turbo-charging of our religious traditions. Foremost is the need to expand beyond the self-focus of individual salvation or enlightenment to also include vital community concerns—notably, survival. The community now, of course, is the entire human family and the more-than-human Earth community. 2”
— Michael Dowd, with a footnote nod to Thomas Berry

I love that: “Turbo-charging” of our religious traditions. For me, and I’m pretty sure Michael agrees, Nothing less than a Reformation and then some is required (I’ve heard Michael use that very term on numerous occasions). I have latched on to the Reformation idea, since we are within a week of entering into the 500h year of the Protestant Reformation. But the Eco-Reformation we now must have goes beyond Protestant-Catholic (indeed, Pope Francis is calling for Eco-Reformation, even if he does not use that specific terminology) and beyond most notions of Christianity, which has , all too often, become “domesticated” into the ways of the human infringements and “Overshoot” (a notion wriiten about by William Catton, another valuable resource among many that MD has brought to my attention) of our civlization. It requires the attention and prophetic voice of religious traditions to confront this massive overstepping of the marvelous resources and processes of creation , set in motion by a loving process of the cosmos.
